I’ve had good success with “No Thank You Evil” for mixed age groups like that, it provides a differentiated play experience for kids so that your 4 year old and your 8 year old can both be equally engaged. You can reskin the setting if you feel it wouldn’t resonate with your kids (though the default has worked fine with mine).

I’ve been exploring how to run a D&D campaign with my kids. I’ve never played a TTRPG myself either, so I’ve been soliciting advice and resources.
