I've been working on Kinopio on-and-off for ~5 years. But it hasn't really been economically sustainable. So I need to decide what to do about that going forwards

there’s a big scary risk that if you’re not constantly moving forward you'll get left behind and forgotten.
But there's also the possibility that it grows like a cactus and all it needs to do is outlive the dry season to flourish
I think make it work on mobile might help too? It's not going to bring money, but, if I think of project I would put in the same tier as kinopio such as arena, the use I make of it is 70/30 on my phone. I would love to update my baords on the fly and add things to it, but opening and using kinopio on mobile right now is near-impossible.

Thanks :) and no pressure, I was just adding here because it is definitely a selling point given how much time people spend on their phones nowadays. If you had the resources, porting the app into something like Tauri might give you an easy win on all fronts, but I understand that's not possible in the current situation.
realized recently that kinopio is a really good meeting ground for techy people interfacing w/ less techy people. case in point: recently started moodboarding w/ my partner for an upcoming move - realized it was the first time we'd coexisted in the same online space! an android app helps this tons

feature that would help grow this segment: would be nice to have ability to invite one person/few ppl to give your subscription/lifetime perks in spaces you create
If I can also add another quick comment, I can see kinopio going down the path of arena (or co-star? or lex?) that is app with a small team that provides long-term sustainability, but doesn't aim to grow endlessly. like, enough people to do what needs to be done
I get why you’d compare Kinopio to are.na but I think if you look at how many new features and the general pace of progress for Kinopio , it’s a very different development model than are.na’s . At the same time, are.na is a far more profitable product so no shade to them.
What I meant was more like: if you go down the VC route, this board will become yet another board with some useless AI integration. If you try to aim for open source and similar grants and maybe creating a small team, you might be able to keep it loyal to its roots while growing. It's all up to you, of course. These are just the random opinions of a stranger :)
