Webbed Site Inspo
backstory
Timeline
DID YOU KNOW: Philadelphia has a “Parking Day” where people turn parking lots into temporary public spaces?
This is the Official Site of Philly HTML day made by Ragman
@pirijan mentions HTML energy in this interview as an alternative framing to digital brutalism in this interview
This space is ephemeral and not really for archival purposes. I imagine it could make putting stuff together in a more structured way for the official site easier later.
Pixel: I’m using this space as an easy place to dump and document planning this event along the way and try out this tool
Admittedly, when Ragman first asked me to co-host I wasn’t sure about it, but something in me felt like it was worth the drive out of the woods
I’ve heard of other friends attending the events, but I don’t live super close to a city so it never seemed like an option
Pixel: HTML energy has been around since 2019. I think I’ve known about it since 2022 since I found myself unexpectedly on the gossips web collection
this is the space for/by html energy
kinopio is a handcrafted mind-mapping tool by pirijan
Ragman: Looking at other location’s sites as inspo
Ragman put extra effort to make the ascii art show up in the thumbnail 😤

Ragman taught an awesome workshop about making little clay sculptures with NFC tags
Pixel spews logistical ideas that Ragman cleans up and puts on the site nicely.
Pixel: We’re going to need a rain location and masks when indoors
Ragman: I made a “show HTML” button inspired by HTML Warden
So much style
Ragman also gave Pixel some spare NFC tags that we now use for the Philadelphia Mycology Club
the cool stuff just keeps happening anyway
Funny thing about Temple is that the newer library has very few outlets... something about how in the library of the future, everyone will essentially have their own power station so there’s no need to charge things all the time?
cynthia: it would be nice to make a webring of these after the event

Pixel and Ragman met earlier this year at the low-tech electronics faire at Temple University
Pixel was there to just hang out, meet cool people, and support Iffy Books (who was selling some of their artwork)
cynthia: can u speedrun how to run this event
Basically went like...
2025-07-23 9 PM EST: Pixel’s friend cynthia in Boston reaches out for tips and start planning their own!
2025-07-22 7 PM EST: Pixel asks the Iffy Books Matrix channel if we can get an HTML energy day in Philly
2025-07-25: Pixel joins the HTML Energy signal
2025-07-22 8 PM EST: Ragman is in, makes a website, and asks Pixel to co-host it at a park
pixel: idk dawg we decided yesterday
Pixel: We could also suggest that people bring their own mask collections and food to do an impromptu distro, it doesn’t have to be all on us
Ragman: Yeah, though they’ll need to end up <1 GB on neocities, we can try some image optimization like dithering!
Ragman: I have some construction paper, markers, pens, pencils, string, and glue. And NFC tags xD
Ragman: Can you help with art supplies?
Pixel: Can we offer to compile HTML and art submissions?
Ideas start brewing
Arguably barely know each other
We met at a workshop and got along! Soon enough, we had each other’s 88x31’s site buttons traded!
This is the official HTML Energy Site
