So while it seems paradoxical at first, the reason the traveling twin is younger when they return is because of the acceleration and changing motion during their trip through space. The Earth twin, who didn’t accelerate or change motion, experienced more time passing.

However, the key is that the traveling twin had to turn around and accelerate during their journey, while the Earth twin remained in the same motion the whole time. This acceleration and changing direction is what caused the difference in how much time passed for each twin.

When the traveling twin returns to Earth, they are younger than the twin who stayed behind. This seems like a paradox because from the traveling twin’s perspective, it was the Earth that was moving away at high speeds, so the Earth twin should be younger.

The twin paradox is about two twins who are the same age. One twin goes on a long journey through space at very high speeds, while the other twin stays on Earth.
