Way back when, I tried my hand at making a newsletter with Kinopio (this amazing tool).

I’ve been really enjoying Derrick Gee’s Patreon radio show, Solid Air

Well, now I’m bringing it back.

It’s basically just that, an hour long radio show where he DJs and plays through a set of music. Something about bringing that as a podcast/video show feel to a show just feels right. A great way to bring that old-school radio feel to the modern age a la NTS.

No schedule, no format, no plan. Just an occasional note about some cool things.

You can also subscribe through Buttondown to get notified whenever a new issue is posted.

He also has an interview podcast, but I haven’t gone down that rabbit hole yet.

Lastly, if you have (or create) a Kinopio account, you can drop in a comment, link, anecdote or note about whatever you’ve been enjoying lately.

I recently finished two books, which are very different from each other, but still have this air of surreal darkness to them.

Next up, the most recent episode of NPR’s All Songs Considered

The joy Jason Mantzoukas brings to all podcasts is infectious.

And this one was especially great as he gushes over the music he’s been digging recently. Plus his “routine” around digging for new music and intentionally listening really jived with me.

Walking Practice is a Korean novella by Dolki Min and translated by Victoria Caudle.

It’s cool to see someone at that height of fame gush over a bunch of smaller and lesser known bands. Give this man a newsletter.

Super quick, super easy to get into. But also, super weird.

Piranesi is Susanna’s sophmore follow-up to Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell.

This one took me a bit to get into as it takes it’s time really establishing the setting and mood in the first half, but the second half is a delightful mystery that almost nears thriller terriritory.

If you read foofaraw you probably already know about a lot of these, but since I don’t spend time looking back, I wanted to gush over some shows that I feel are overlooked.

I don’t really know why I loved this as much as I did. It’s a nice, thoughtful, touching story, but it’s truly a showcase for Ewan McGregor. I think I just adored getting to watch him bask in this role. He is absolutely fantastic and should win an Emmy for his performance.

It’s beautiful itself 👏 and it’s a beautiful showcase for how Kinopio could be used

It reminded me of Johnatan Strange & Mr. Norell, one of my favourite 📕. I should read the sequel!

The only detractor I have for We Are Lady Parts is each season is only six episodes. There is so much great stuff happening here and getting to see these characters live life and make (some killer) music is a blast.

And lastly, I had to mention Fantasmas because it’s just so weird. I created a whole space dedicated to some of the imagery from E1 and can’t wait to watch the rest of this season. It’s not for everyone, but if you like weird and surreal, you’ll like this.
