Start talking about how it will run
Oh right, okay - can do all week if people are up for it; I’ve already started it on:
Let’s keep this Troupe-y: Y’all going to in a scenario together - on the way to the tavern; we’ll do improv prompts to get conversation going and see :)
Each player takes about 1 post “turn” per day; as a minimum M–F, taking weekends off — All up for negotiation here, while we figure shedules
Ugh.. sorry - Accidently deleted the whole space lol. Take II!

Progressing
oh i meant like we can play all week, but weekends shouldnt be an off day, bc thats when we can be the most active i think
CP: 000x

Okay - I’ll make space; link will be in hub for invites

wip
id start a new space, just to have it better organized.

This weekend
A quest board; prerequisite of a small test to see if you were capable
A letter mysteriously appeared in your backpack while you weren’t looking.
Drinking fruit punch (mixed with wine and mostly blood) at the local tavern. I drink i invented called the bloody Marge. Ppl aren’t into it .. yet. I might’ve passed out.

In this example, can we ask ‘does the knife look evil?’

200 gold bag might look like?

Orientation - Top to bottom, then Left to right; I don’t want to restrict posting creativity as well - so open to anything at this point.

Acutally scrap that - let’s see how we go.
We’ll follow connectors
👎
How’s the performance so far for posting?
The way we post is still up in the air; I think .... maybe we create a super fresh space for this to begin the game.

Retrieve the horn of an elk?
To join some kinda well known squad? Like the special forces but rpg?

Story background
The meeting (for the quest)
What/Why - Align a shared goal which is….
You are to meet a person called ”...” at ”...” to discuss ”....”
Where were you?
I’ve separated this so it could be easier to brainstorm;
No goals // We are together to get the job done.
What was it?
How did you meet?

Motivations
Having said that, there is no classes, you’re adventurers - so you be able to use magic, price is time and energy. Magic is found; Some are from books/scrolls/items - Gifted, looted or bought.
Tries very hard to fit in with humans (but she was always treated like the devil incarnate just because she isn’t one)

Types of downtime activites
Purchase a shack/house for respite
The default is to go to town and restock, relax, and bar time :) Or an army of horses
So here is some downtime things you can do; when you have extra gold to spend (noting some of you are not exposed to TTRPG so better to give you more information than less) - But the venn diagram of RPG’s across all media is similar, so anything you can think of - feel free to ask, we probably can do it.
A) Gold was used as a level tracking
Reason for this section is... partly also an understanding for myself - If leveling isn’t in this system, then why are you as characters taking on quest that reward you with gold??
C) Fun?
Some activities may require multiple steps - which I’ll introduce you to the milestone tracking, but case by case - I’ll go into it when we cross that bridge
B) Used to do downtime activities or trade for more in-world experiences
The classic troup of adventuring is treasure hunting and gold accumulation.
Downtime
Between game sessions, players can engage in a variety of activities such as research, following up on leads, improving skills, or building relationships. A PC (Player Character) is limited to one Downtime Action at a time. These actions cannot be undertaken in unsafe conditions or while a character is in recovery. A character cannot perform an action if it would put their safety at risk.
But whatever it is... it’s a balance in finding WHY you are doing the things you do; will help the characters motivation; but if you’re mode is chill and just for fun - then no need to over think this :)
Doesn’t have to be this weekend, I can begin the structure and everyone can post (I’ll add soff rules/guidelines) - be good to see how it rolls out and works for folks. Then Weekend would begin the adventure proper.
4 players is a good number
Ben will be observing instead so we can go ahead and start; which is now on me :) Let me.... prep some world stuff.
I’ll make place holder title cards
Character ready?
fixd
Only thing I see hard is when you acquire stacks; like 150. Be a little tedious to minus or add with the voting method.
Okay, that’s a good start. How about we start with a meeting of the quest giver to get everyone familiar and warmed up to the Play by Post concept
i’d say the best time to play this is the weekend, it’s not a job for anyone here im pretty sure, the minimum to one a day is great imo
Add options if you need
Couple options here:
Pretty tolerant
The Campsite
The Tavern
I’ll open with a scene to the adventure
Folktales recount that traveling through The Roots bends the natural order of things. Stories tell of adventurers lost for centuries to the depths, only to emerge again claiming that only a few hours have passed. Others have claimed to make a week-long journey above ground in just one day, traveling in the tunnels beneath.
🗺️
Races
This world has various races; I’m open to alternative races, there is still unease for some in small isolated towns - less common; Lizard, cat, rat folk - some are welcoming due to circumstances- this will be played out during play and found out during game play.
Reminder to check out the player prinicples
But let’s start with this exercise; read the

Do you have relations to
Has anyone encountered Roots/Gates
What’s your exposure to magic?
What has been done
Feel free to ask question
we should start doing this
🌐
Ah yes good point - I’ll make a note to comment on all :)
and it might be better for the warden to know
i think everyone should say their relation to them, even if they dont know about them at all so that its not gonna be visible who has ties to who by the pfp?
Honor system to not look inside the comment cards that isn’t your own; but if accidental - roleplay without that extra game knowledge - Thanks!

Please add a comment card on the rows.
I’ll start with you all in the classic tavern scene (Maybe-WIP).... meeting the person giving you said quest; but this is noting you all have agreed in some way to be in a party together and now in the process of meeting said person.
Who will you be meeting for the run down.
Foxwoman
8 HP, 12 STR, 14 DEX, 15 WIL, claws (d6+d6), bite (d8)
Can take the form of a fox, or a woman with a hidden fox leg.
Immune to attacks from metal weapons.
Critical damage: Victim is choked unconscious.
Blood Elk
4 HP, 12 STR, 13 DEX, 5 WIL, horns (d8)
Born from violence resulting from a greedy or selfish act.
Kills its victims for sustenance, but gains no succor. It is always hungry.
Critical Damage: gores its victims by ripping out their entrails.
Dire Wolf
8 HP, 14 STR, 12 DEX, 8 WIL, bite (d10)
Horse-sized, semi-intelligent wolves that roam the forests and mountains. Highly territorial.
Can be trained as pets if captured young.
Monsters
Again, similar to witcher; they reside in the deep forests, woods, haunted, abandoned areas, etc. Usually in unhabituated spaces, not to say they don’t roam, but that’s uncommon. unless narratively speaking it’s justified or is an event of sorts.
But some magic items does have this world impact.
So not like harry pottter
Magics:
Similar to Witcher - it’s there, harnessed by a select few but not common to ordinary folk - though they’re aware of it
Theme
I won’t be telling how your character feels towards something. eg: you see “an evil-looking knife.” - Rather you see “A “long, jagged knife””
Players do not need to roll dice to learn about their circumstances, you just need to ask.
Telegraphing serious danger to players when it is present. The more dangerous, the more obvious.
Provide hints where needed, and will answer questions transparently; I’m not the adversary to your characters; cornering you into a deadly trap.
re-state a character’s surroundings, where they are in physical space, and what their senses are detecting. How close are they to a potential danger? What side of an object are they standing on?
Gather around the table
Brief info “The party travels along the river, arriving just West of the campsite”
We’ll do a warm up of Play by Post as well. I can begin set dressing the scene and will allow space for you answer; reply as you see fit with your character or ask questions OOC (Out of Character) to get more context of the scene or system.
No right or wrong answers - read each others sheet, collaborate on how you think ties you together.
We can start with who’s given the “quest” - Weither it be a patrons, employers or freelancers
This is where we decide, as a group how you guys tie in together to form this ragtag group of adventurers
Party background establishment
A bit of improv and co-creation :)
THE ORDER OF NINE
THE SILVERSILK RIVER
A primary water source for the Cities, flowing through a tight canyon called the Fingers.
This will organically build your story and ground you into this world by the responses you create.
Think about how you aquired this knowledge; books, gossip, experience
The denizens of The Wood are fiercely independent, believing they are subject solely to the rules of The Wood. Its fierce nations, wild tribes, and unrelenting elements have kept armies and scouting parties at bay.
Populated by creatures stranger and more wondrous than humankind: Fae, Demons, Witches, werewolves, and even talking plants and animals. They do not appreciate losing their home to “natural” progress
The Woods
Any lands beyond the control of a noble, city, or town. Typically wilder and less “civilized.” All forests are part of The Wood, regardless of isolation.
EG: if you’ve lived a sheltered life, or suffered memory loss.
Only the brave or foolish have dared enter The Roots, in search of forgotten Relics or powerful Spellbooks. The few that return whisper of unspeakable terrors guarding these lost treasures.
THE ROOTS
Remnants of the Old World, its labyrinthine hollows stretching for immeasurable distances deep underground, connecting the sewers of the cities to the far-flung ruins. Entrances to The Roots (called Gates) can be found throughout the realm, but are protected, or shrewdly hidden.
Common knowledge amongst adventurers’; you can choose to not know this info if it suits your character
The Roots
is the realm of mystery and horror underneath, and does not care
for the petty divisions aboveground
The Woods
surrounds and divides the kingdoms, and includes anyone (or
anything) that has not yet sworn fealty. The Woods is not one forest, but all
forests.
Vald
The implied setting of Cairn is called Vald. This includes all developed or
settled lands, cities, towns, etc. The particular ruler does not matter.
Petty items are subjective; so we’ll figure it out as we go; but the aim is not to get too bogged down with item tracking :)

From Yochai (Creator): Petty means irrelevant, No weight, can’t be crushed, can’t affect anything around it
I just learn’t gems are brittle so they go in Inventory slot; not petty
Misc and light items; and with reason.
If you were to hold this, would it slow you down?
We are going to introduce some 2e rules on items:
Character is ready
What you are playing can be deadly, but characters can survive through critical thinking and careful exploration.

Doesn’t (yet) have likes, dislikes, any knowledge of the world surrounding her, as she was always locked up, hidden away
Now, she starts on a journey hoping that along the way she will find her true parents/family, a society where she is accepted for who she is
A changeling child who was put in place of another, she was never welcome in the town, they banished her as soon as she turned 21

Born a vampire, but don’t hold it against him. Kid Dynamite grew up hearing cool stories of fighters, adventure, and l33t loot. Armed with all the swords/sharp things he could find around the house, and a bucketful of sunscreen, he departs on a quest to bash heads, warrior-style
When not questing, he performs on the streets as a mime in towns with barely any population.
He is always worrying, armoring up, and fighting from a distance. An expert at dodging, ducking, and dodging. And can sneak up on the best of ’em.
Malachi the Mundane is scared. He believes himself to be quite introspective and loves to offer advice, although it usually results in treacherous circumstances.
