in the short term, this is not very likely

Q: can a free tier with no profile contribute to a “Open To All” space?
paying for kinopio
can cause a lot of graffiti
really unlikely since they are paying
no
Shouldn’t it be up to the user..?
Yeah, we have multiple concepts in this space and it’s not always clear which one we are referring to :P
Ok, I gotchya. I was thinking the Comment-only invite would solve that. So it can be closed, open, comment-only.
Do we envision commenting as a tool for existing collaborators to express themselves differently, or should it be a new role?
I think it should be a space setting if we’re talking about the use case of “I have published something to share with the world.” Analogous to a blog—I can choose whether to have comments or not.
I wouldn’t characterize this as “unnecessary” :) I see a comment mode simplifying/clarifying the interaction. This seems like the best way to support the use case of—I have a space I have crafted and want to publish/share with the world. I want to elicit feedback or comments.
But that goes back to... →
Yeah, in this scheme, it would always have a comment indicator of some sort. I find that less obtrusive than a comment being an entirely new card.
When I was talking about layers, I was thinking this would be a space setting. So everyone would see the effect. When we’re talking about “hiding comments,” I’m assuming we are talking about a client setting. So it’s up to the user what they want to see.
Why limit threads to comment cards? What if all cards supported comments? Another thought—you could scope comments to existing cards.
IDK... How would others know a comment is behind the card. You then need a visual indicator i.e. the current “Comment” card indicator, but I wouldn’t want regular cards to have that...
perhaps being able to add a comment thread to a comment card would address this. you could have a card saying leave comments here , pointing to a comment card
I also think threads could be super valuable as a way to limit clutter in a space. i.e. one comment card can be a whole conversation. Sort of like in Word/PPT where you can highlight a section + Comment
and then people can reply, but it’s still only one highlight over the section.
This is more unneccessary complication... but what if... Open to All could be split into two modes: Open and Comments only
I like this idea a lot within the current framework. I still think a third role of “commentor” is helpful to designate who can participate in comments.
That use case is distinct from Open to All and Collaborators, where every person is an equal collaborator. I think this is worth considering. I continue to believe that people want this. There are many spaces that are currently Public Read Only that could have been “Open for Comments”.
In other words: Comment can turn into a conversation in one card.
So maybe if the hiding/showing comments were more a “part” of the interface that could reduce some of the “not wanting to mess up a space”
Because I think there is real value in comments being in the space and spatial.
I wonder if the Hide Comment button could be part of the main interface so it feels more like “Entering Comment” mode
> without feeling like you’re ‘intruding’ on the original space. because commenters can confidently create cards, do whatever, knowing that the creator can easily ignore them because they would have the ability to hide them or work with the space in such a way that they don’t get in the way.
It’s more than trust in commentors. Having a more explicit commenting mechanism encourages folks to comment.
but it isn’t spatial
