and i don’t want it to get defaced

I’ve had thoughts about comments for years, and I appreciate you articulating yours. Some of mine are in the forum:

Shouldn’t it be up to the user..?

How would that be different than hiding comments?

using current features

proposal

The problem being, this isn’t super intuitive for guests / non-Kinopio users.

this is key. there are only two roles right now: 1) viewer 2) collaborator. There is no middle ground.

speaking of layers, what if you could have a comments “layer” that the owner could toggle on and off?

I think it should be a space setting if we’re talking about the use case of “I have published something to share with the world.” Analogous to a blog—I can choose whether to have comments or not.

When I was talking about layers, I was thinking this would be a space setting. So everyone would see the effect. When we’re talking about “hiding comments,” I’m assuming we are talking about a client setting. So it’s up to the user what they want to see.

solutions:

This is more unneccessary complication... but what if... Open to All could be split into two modes: Open and Comments only

If so, you could create a box to have read/write and cards to have read

doubt it, seems like this would cause a lot of confusion

1. Hide Comments

So maybe if the hiding/showing comments were more a “part” of the interface that could reduce some of the “not wanting to mess up a space”

Because I think there is real value in comments being in the space and spatial.

I wonder if the Hide Comment button could be part of the main interface so it feels more like “Entering Comment” mode

> without feeling like you’re ‘intruding’ on the original space. because commenters can confidently create cards, do whatever, knowing that the creator can easily ignore them because they would have the ability to hide them or work with the space in such a way that they don’t get in the way.

It’s more than trust in commentors. Having a more explicit commenting mechanism encourages folks to comment.

create and link to a “Open To All” space specifically for comments

“Public Read Only”

“Open To All”

easy, just create a box

you have a space you want to share

you want a comment section

3. See all comments in the sidebar

2. Add a comment with `(())`

I think there is something to this flow that could be super useful if solidified a bit more for this type of use case.

> I’d like to be able to publish and work using Kinopio and illicit feedback and comments. Currently, comments are essentially like any other card, so in order to enable them, I need to provide others with a collaborator key, or make the space Open to All.

connect to the hivemind

without comment section in the space

with comment section in the space:

Feedback is detached from the space. It’s left on whatever platform the space was shared on.

Feedback is attached to the space. It lingers for the duration of the space’s life.

then, i want it to live on “Explore” page

i want to share my space on how i use kinopio to do project management
